Piko Tīpuna- Curve Of The Ancestors Already Ancient Aotearoa

We spent hours working on this fine four plait twist, we just stopped the clock. When at first we thought the piece was complete we put it down and picked it up when ever we had spare time removing lumps, bumps and scratches.

The pikopiko is a fern frond, one of the special foods of early summer. The piko is a symbol of life itself and is represented by the shape of a koru. Whilst the word “koru" augers a mental image of a rolling curve the word piko is more easily translated to the word, twist. This is the twist we see in the DNA helix and the pattern of life.

Message- Life is a shared and constantly evolving experience, forever revealing itself. We embrace our connections and acknowledge our place of belonging in this realm where the negative space gives definition to substance. We represent the sum total that makes the whole. We dance in the light.
