Māori cup - inspired by the “Māori ware" manufactured by Royal Doulton (1906 to 1923). Māori people were the first settlers to New Zealand, thought to be around the 13 th century. The blue and white cup I designed myself to represent the Dutch explorer Abel Tasman, the first European to discover New Zealand in 1642. Yellow/pink cup - signifies the British explorer James Cook, the first European to outline the coast of New Zealand (late 18 th century) and may also be the cup he drank from on his voyages. Butterflies can symbolise hope, new beginnings and happiness
