Side Show Alley in the 60's
Palettes & Places is a celebration of colour, memory, and the emotional imprint of travel. Inspired by landscapes across Italy, Japan, Australia, Hawaii, and the Mediterranean, Debra Hutton's paintings capture the feeling of being there, the warmth of sunlit streets, the rhythm of coastal towns, and the atmosphere that lingers long after the journey ends.
Travel plays a central role in Hutton's practice. Having spent 14 years travelling internationally as a flight attendant with Qantas, she developed a rich visual archive of colour, light, and place that continues to shape her work today. Rather than depicting literal scenes, Hutton paints from memory and emotion, allowing intuitive mark making and expressive colour to guide each composition.
Italy remains a recurring source of inspiration, where light, architecture, and the spirit of la dolce vita influence both palette and mood. Working from photographs and personal recollections, Hutton matches her colour palette to the essence of each place, translating atmosphere and memory into vibrant, expressive works
Hutton's paintings are held in private collections across Australia and New Zealand, and she is known for creating works that feel both uplifting and deeply personal. Palettes & Places invites viewers to experience travel through colour, where memory, movement, and place converge on canvas.
