Le Cygne (The Swan) - For Solo Euphonium and Brass Band

Originally written for cello and two pianos in 1886, this lushly romantic euphonium solo (which evokes a swan elegantly gliding over water) is played over rippling sixteenths and rolled chords (said to represent the swan’s feet, hidden from view beneath the water, propelling it along).

A staple in the cello repertoire, this is one of the most well-known movements of Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnaval des Animaux.
