Castellari Bergaglio Fornaci Gavi di Tassarolo 2023
Gavi is known as the Chablis of Italy, because of the freshness of the wines, and also their vinification without the use of oak. This Gavi delivers that clean, driven freshness, but with a little more fruitfulness in aromatics, and a gentle pithiness on the finish. The fruit comes from estate vineyards, grown on the clay soils of Tassarolo, Piedmont in Italy’s north. The name Fornaci (meaning furnace) refers to the kilns historically used to fire the local clay into ceramics.
Across four generations the Bergaglio family has been a leading light in the production of Gavi. From their 12 hectares of vineyards, planted exclusively with the Cortese grape, they seek to express a sense of place, making wines of purity and minerality.
