These Vintage Herki Runner rugs are much more than floor coverings; they are beautiful pieces of Kurdish history, often woven as dowry pieces roughly 40 to 50 years ago.

These nomadic treasures originated in the mountainous regions across the eastern part of Turkey, Syria, and Iraq, handcrafted by Kurdish and Arab artisans.

To soften their traditionally bright colours for the modern home, a time-honoured, chemical-free process is used: the runners are laid out in open fields for natural sun-fading throughout the summer. This sunbathing gently mutes the hues, giving each rug a unique, mellow patina. Once their colours are perfectly kissed by the sun, each runner is thoroughly washed multiple times, expertly repaired, and carefully stretched, a meticulous process that ensures their enduring beauty for generations to come.
