Australian Harlequin Tusk Wrasse
The Australian Harlequin Tuskfish is a stunning, bold-coloured wrasse known for its vibrant stripes, electric blue teeth, and inquisitive personality. Sourced from the pristine waters of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, this regional variant is highly sought after for its exceptional colouration and hardiness compared to its Indo-Pacific counterparts.
Australian specimens display significantly more vibrant and defined coloration than those from Indonesia. Their red-orange body bands are deeper and more saturated, while the blues and greens are richer and more vivid. The face and operculum markings are more intense, and the contrast between colours is noticeably sharper. These visual differences make the Australian Tuskfish the preferred choice for serious collectors and aquarists looking for a showpiece fish.
This species requires a minimum tank size of 400 litres, with ample swimming space and secure rockwork. It thrives in stable water conditions with temperatures between 24 and 26°C, salinity between 1.024 and 1.026, and a pH of 8.1 to 8.4. Harlequin Tuskfish are semi-aggressive and best kept with similarly sized tank mates. While reef-safe in terms of not bothering coral, they are not suitable for tanks with small crustaceans or ornamental invertebrates, as these may be seen as food.
Currently feeding well on EMA Mega Fish & Coral Food, this Tuskfish has adapted to a diet of high-quality prepared marine foods and frozen meaty offerings. Its strong appetite and adaptability make it a resilient and rewarding addition to larger marine aquariums.
All Australian Harlequin Tuskfish offered by EMA are fully conditioned, quarantined, and trained on prepared foods. With their vivid colours and active personality, they serve as a true centrepiece fish for advanced reef or FOWLR systems.
