Cardrona Distillery Kārearea Project Port Cask Whisky 700ml
Cardrona Distillery's Kārearea Project Port Cask Whisky is a rare, single cask release that does good while tasting seriously good. Drawn from an ex-Central Otago port barrel, this special bottling showcases Cardrona’s rich, expressive single malt style with a distinctly local twist. It is bold, elegant and full of character, with every bottle helping protect one of New Zealand’s most threatened native birds.
This whisky sits at the heart of the Kārearea Project, a community conservation initiative led by Cardrona Alpine Resort, with Cardrona Distillery as the primary supporter. The Cardrona Valley is one of the few remaining nesting grounds for the kārearea, New Zealand’s native falcon. To support this work, half of all proceeds from this single cask release are donated directly to the Kārearea Project, making this a bottle that genuinely gives back.
Finished in a rare Central Otago port cask, the whisky is lush and expressive, layering dark fruit and florals over Cardrona’s signature weight and texture. It is a standout sipping whisky and an even better reason to open something special.
Tasting Notes
Juicy ripe brambles and strawberry lead the way, followed by soft rosehip florals and a rich, creamy note of clotted cream. Full-bodied, smooth and beautifully balanced, with a lingering, elegant finish.
