Flax Field

part of the Last Summer body of work that invites the viewer to contemplate the transient nature of summer holidays and how holiday memories may be a construct of the ‘ideal’.

Inspired by an empty plot found in Coromandel Town, next to a popular holiday spot, that is now overgrown with flax and sprawling plant life.

Painted with oil paint & oil pastels on canvas. This is the original artwork, measuring 51x 77 cm. Sides of the canvas are painted a deep blue which compliments the painting.

The artwork comes in an oak floating frame (as pictured). This frame sits away from the stretched canvas, with a 5mm gap, giving the illusion of floating separately from the artwork. The frame makes the artwork 4.5cm deep.
