2020 Palazzetta Brunello di Montalcino
A generous, open-knit Brunello.
On the nose wild cherry, strawberry and red plum up front, followed by dried Mediterranean herbs and spice. On the palate it’s full and composed with ripe red and dark fruit, earthy spice carried by firm, silky tannins and bright acidity. A powerful wine, yet remarkably well-balanced with fresh, racy acidity carrying the fruit, finishing long. Drinking well already with food, but with plenty in reserve for years to come.
A natural partner for steak, game, or ragu.
La Palazzetta is a family-run 18-hectare estate in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, on stony galestro and limestone soils at 365 m above sea level. Flavio Fanti, a committed traditionalist, oversees every aspect of the vineyards and cellar, working organically. His Brunellos rest in large Slovenian and French oak casks, after fastidious selection and hand harvesting of the grapes, the wine macerates for between 21-23 days in open top fermenters and is aged for four years in large botti.
