Stereolab - Fed Up With Your Job / Constant And Uniform Movement Unknown (Pre-Order)

Following on from the 2025 release of Instant Holograms On Metal Film, their first studio album in 15 years, Stereolab return with two brand new songs - ‘Fed Up With Your Job’ and ‘Constant And Uniform Movement Unknown’, recorded during the Instant Holograms On Metal Film sessions.

This limited double A-side 7" contains two brand new tracks not available on any other physical formats. It is accompanied by two incredible videos.

"The marvellous thing about ‘Fed Up With Your Job’ is the economy of the melodies that sashay this way and that, going from lovely intro to hitting a chorus within 30 seconds. It breaks through with a fanging guitar riff from Tim Gane with acoustic strumming away underneath, before we go back to the verse and more riddles for Laetitia's lyrics to weave. Then it’s back to the chorus, with added keyboard wibbles, before one of their dazzling bridges that takes it all down into a swooning place of calm, before we have lift off again - this time with even more beautifully verdant keyboard flourishes.
There are so many little details, little shifts, and they cascade one after the other breathlessly, before the song layers the chorus melody with fluttering synths to its conclusion. Masterful stuff - like a classic Lab song you’ve known for 30 years, but here, now. The band really comes across as if it’s having the time of its life, with a kind of creative telepathy and chemistry that is making everything they do sound effortless.
It’s a remarkable comeback to hear not only the album, but all these other top class song pouring out of them. They always were a prolific band (with well over 300 songs to their name), but to find them repeating their creative peak at the same pace for the second act was not something any of us saw coming - even if we hoped they would.
