Large Vintage Italian Gubbio Maiolica Garniture Set – Hand Painted Blue Relief Ensemble
A striking vintage Italian ceramic garniture set from Gubbio, Umbria, signed to the base and beautifully hand-finished in a softened blue and ivory palette. This was one of those finds that you can’t stop thinking about, to find such an ensemble in this condition was an exciting moment for us in Florence.
This richly detailed ensemble includes a lidded tureen, matching underplate, open scalloped vessel and a pair of candlesticks — each piece layered with sculptural foliage and classical scrollwork, applied in relief and finished by hand.
The colour sits between a faded cobalt and antique French blue — gently desaturated, chalky and time-softened rather than bright or glossy. It has a natural patina that gives the set a sense of age and quiet sophistication.
Crafted in the tradition of Italian maiolica — the original Italian term for tin-glazed ceramics (often seen as “majolica" in English) — this set reflects a more refined, heritage approach to decorative pottery.
Designed as a decorative ensemble rather than everyday tableware, this is a statement collection to style — across a kitchen island, console or open shelving — where the depth of detail and tonal variation can be fully appreciated.
