For sowing: For early crops, raise seeds in pots filled with fine seed-raising mix in a warm, well-lit, protected position. Transplant after 3–4 weeks. For direct sowing, press 4–5 seeds into mounds of moist soil spaced 40cm apart, then thin to the two strongest plants. Seeds can also be sown next to a small trellis or support structure approximately 1m high.
For growing on: Grow in a sunny, well-drained position. Water regularly at the base of the plant to prevent bitterness and harvest fruit frequently to encourage continuous production. Protect young plants from snails and slugs. Includes:
