For sowing: For early crops, raise seeds in pots filled with fine seed-raising mix in a warm, well-lit, protected position. Transplant after 3–4 weeks. For direct sowing, press 3–4 seeds into mounds of moist soil spaced 1.5m apart, then thin to the two strongest plants.

For growing on: Grow in a sunny, well-drained position with plenty of room to spread. Water well during early growth, then reduce watering as fruit begins to ripen to improve sweetness. Harvest when the underside of the fruit turns yellow and the fruit produces a dull, hollow sound when tapped. Includes:
