Wrapped Beaded Necklace – Fine Silver & 24ct Gold Keum-Boo
Every bead in this necklace was made by hand. Not assembled — made. Each one individually formed from Fine Silver, textured, and then wrapped before 24ct gold is fused directly into the surface using the ancient Korean technique of Keum-Boo. Alternate beads are oxidised to a deep, smoky contrast, so the gold catches the light differently across every bead. The cord is hand-plaited. The necklace sits at approximately 49.5cm — at or just below the collarbone — and is made to order in Auckland, New Zealand. There is no part of this necklace that wasn't touched, considered, and made by a single pair of hands. Why this necklace
This is not a necklace you buy because you need a necklace. You buy it because you want to wear something that carries real making in it — something that took time, skill, and intention. The contrast of oxidised silver and warm 24ct gold is quiet but striking. It sits beautifully at the collarbone and works as well with a linen shirt as it does with something dressed up. It's the kind of piece people ask about. What occasions suit this necklace
A significant birthday. A personal milestone. A gift to yourself after something hard or something wonderful. It's also a considered wedding gift, an anniversary piece, or a way to mark a new chapter. Because every necklace is unique — no two are identical — it carries the weight of a one-of-a-kind object without the price of a commission. Wearability
At 49.5cm, this necklace sits at or just below the collarbone on most necklines — a versatile length that works with open necklines, crew necks, and everything in between. If you'd prefer a different length, get in touch — I'm happy to discuss options. The hand-plaited cord is lightweight and comfortable for all-day wear. The beads have presence without being heavy. This is a necklace you'll reach for often. Care guide
- Store in a soft pouch or jewellery box away from other pieces to protect the surface texture.
- Remove before swimming, bathing, or applying perfume, oils, or lotions.
- The oxidised finish will mellow gently over time with wear — this is part of the character of the piece, not a flaw.
- To clean, use a soft dry cloth. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners and chemical dips, which can damage both the Fine Silver and the Keum-Boo gold.
- The 24ct gold applied via Keum-Boo is fused into the silver surface and is durable, but should be treated with the same care as any fine metalwork. Made to order
Each necklace is made individually after your order is placed. Because of the nature of the texturing and the way the gold is applied, no two necklaces are identical — yours will be its own piece. Please allow additional time for making.
