Hamadan village rugs are known for their hand-knotted, strong and sturdy quality, using local sheep’s wool. The pile is usually thick. Hamadan is a collecting centre for all the nearby villages and is situated on a plateau in central Iran. There is a large portfolio of designs used in village rugs, floral with the ‘herati’, ‘boteh’, ‘mahi’,. Motifs are displayed in various sizes. Natural dyes used are extracted from vegetables and roots.
