Limited Edition Framed Print - Encroaching Land, West Eweburn Dam
Encroaching Land, West Eweburn: When the water level dropped at the West Eweburn Reservoir, it revealed a landscape that usually sits hidden beneath the surface. As the shoreline receded, it left behind these layered terraces and bands of tone, like contour lines made physical. The land feels as though it is quietly advancing, reclaiming space that had only temporarily belonged to the water.
I chose to work in black and white to emphasise the structure and texture of the exposed shoreline. Without the distraction of colour, the repeating lines, ridges and subtle shifts in tone become the focus, almost turning the dam edge into something abstract.
Photographed by award winning photographer, Janyne Fletcher GMNZIPP, this image received a bronze award at the 2024 NZIPP Iris awards.
