Butia capitata | Jelly Palm (Large)

The lovely Jelly Palm (Butia capitata) has beautiful bluey-green foliage and is tolerant. of a wide range of conditions including, cold, wind and coastal conditions. A medium sized palm, it grows eventually to around 8m tall and not often much beyond that in NZ, and yet over time it does develop a most impressive stout, thick trunk. This fine looking palm that hails from Brazil in South America seems to enjoy conditions.
The bright yellow-orange fruit from the Jelly Palm is used for all sorts of things like juice, jelly & marmalade. And like so many other palms, fermented to make mead or toddy-like booze.
