Galangal, Red (Thai Ginger)

Alpinia galanga or Red Galangal, also known as 'Thai Ginger, is a member of the Ginger family, looks similar to Turmeric and the edible rhizome is used widely for cooking in southeast Asian cuisine and has medical uses in many other parts of the world.
A little more hardy than the white cultivar, so does surprisingly well in most conditions, but obviously the closer you can get to imitating tropical growing conditions the better it will do. They race away when grown in a greenhouse.
