Galangal, White (Thai Ginger)

Alpinia officinarum or White Galangal, also known as 'Thai Ginger, is a member of the Ginger family, looks similar to Turmeric and the edible rhizome is used widely for cooking in southeast Asian cuisine and has medical uses in many other parts of the world.
Slightly less cold-hardy than the red cultivar, so the closer you can get to imitating tropical growing conditions the better it will do. They race away when grown in a greenhouse.
