Sugar Cane Plant | Saccharum officinarum

Sugar cane (Saccharum officinarum) isn't just delicious to eat, it can be quite beautiful to look at too. As it matures, the canes take on more 'character' showing off a huge range of colours (there are hundreds of different species of sugar cane, each with a slightly different appearance, behaviour, colouring and taste!). This example happens to sport lovely green-yellow-coloured canes. Juice it, chew on it, turn it into a tropical wind-break or just stare at it. Grows perfectly happily in conditions, if slightly more slowly than in the tropics.
