African Cabbage Tree
A fascinating evergreen native to southern Africa, Cussonia paniculata develops into an interesting shape and has distinctive, unusual shaped bluish-green foliage. It is a short, thick-set tree that rarely grows to more than 5m. Regarded as a pachycaul succulent as it develops a swollen stem base. Slow growing, and the mature tree produces small green-cream flowers in mid to late spring followed by a fleshy, purple-maroon fruit. Plant in part-shade to full sun where soil is free-draining.
