Papaya - Dwarf Amber Lady

Carica papaya is a tropical plant native to South America. The “Amber Lady" variety, originating from Taiwan, produces yellow to orange fruit known for its excellent taste.

Papayas are highly productive and make a valuable understory addition to food forest systems in New Zealand. They are relatively easy to grow when provided with suitable conditions. Flowering and fruiting typically occur within the first calendar year.

While papayas can be grown in containers, their shallow root system generally performs better when planted directly in the ground, especially in the Upper North Island.
