Meadowsweet (Filipendula ulmaria): Meadowsweet is used in the treatment of hyperacidity, gastritis and peptic ulceration. Its gentle astringency is useful in treating diarrhoea, especially in children. It soothes and protects the mucous membranes of the digestive tract and stomach lining whilst reducing acidity. Studies have found that Meadowsweet can also promote the healing of chronic ulcers and prevent lesions from developing in the stomach.
Peppermint leaf (Mentha piperita): Aromatic and very flavourful, peppermint is wonderful for the digestive system, acting as a carminative to reduce gas, ease nausea and sooth cramping. It is an uplifting herb and cooling to the body. Peppermint does appear to have a relaxing effect on the gastrointestinal sphincters which helps the movement of wind through the digestive tract.
