Lakush
Our grapes for the 2023 vintage were found in the Awatere Valley in Marlborough, New Zealand.
They grow on a gentle sloping clay hill, which we hand harvested into oak barrels. The fruit was left to cold soak for 5 days using the lowest possible level of sulphur before being inoculated with a native yeast found in and transported from the Bourgogne region of France. Our grapes were barrel fermented inside French, American and Hungarian oak barriques. They developed a rich dark colour, powerful, full bodied, deep red wine with subtle nuances of spiced berries. The juice was then gently extracted using a traditional basket press. No pumping or mechanical aids were used during the making of this wine which was left to mature for 15 months before being hand bottled and left an additional 3 months to age anaerobically in bottle.
