The Bearded Poet

Inspired by her artist residency at '', Janie has shared the following words about this experience;

"I was an Artist in residence at for a couple of nights. When it was pouring with rain I stood at the open door and made use of the shining wet light of day. The cottage is painstakingly and beautifully restored by Camp Bay farmers Alex and Wendy.
The hut was built in the 1930s for fishermen and had fallen into disrepair. It was constructed from flattened kerosene cans. Alex restored each one individually to remake the walls and lined the cabin with wood. It is very well insulated and has an incredibly efficient woodburner. All the interior fittings are of the highest quality, Wendy has beautifully recreated an authentic space where time slows. We didn't want it to be over. I went in the still very cold sea and lay in the wonderful out door bath afterwards. The scenery is beach and bay, headlands and rugged hills. The sounds are of the sea, the cries of the oyster catcher, wild geese, and the sheep calling to each other on the great volcanic slopes. Thank you Wendy and Alex, it's been a gift we will never forget."
