"My eyes were immediately drawn to this beautiful composition near Twizel, in the heart of the Mackenzie Country. With snow down to 700m it was almost on the doorstep of this station, but the light was only fleeting so I had to work quickly & I captured this handheld (after that I tried using my tripod, but the light had already dulled & the colours flattened). The characteristics of my 240mm lens compressed the distance & brought the mountains closer to me, a pleasing effect for the extra drama it provides. And if you’ve travelled the main highway from Tekapo to Lindis Pass, you’ve actually passed through the centre of this painterly scene, as the road passes in between the trees & the foot of the mountains!"
