Excerpt from Groventive review by GardenAdvice.co.nz
Groventive controls a long list of nasties that suck and chew our indoor and outdoor plants, including:
- aphids
- mealybugs
- scale
- mites
- leafhoppers
- thrips
- whitefly
- spittlebugs
- psyllids and more!
It gives me the creepy crawlies just writing that list. This is the 200ml concentrate which makes 20 litres of spray treatment. Measuring cup included.

What is Groventive?
Groventive is a new generation systemic. It controls sucking and chewing insects on house plants, ornamentals, hedging and roses, while being low-toxicity making it safer for bees and beneficial insects. If you're on the hunt for the old Yates Confidor (no longer available to the hobbyist), Groventive is what you want instead.
How does Groventive work?
Groventive is a systemic insecticide which works differently to a contact insecticide. Systemic insecticides don't have to come in contact with the insect. Instead Groventive is absorbed through the leaf, into the sap of the plant. When an insect tries to feed, they get a dose of insecticide. It effectively makes your plant toxic to sap-sucking pests.
That means you no longer have to completely saturate every nook and cranny like a contact insecticide, plus you'll use less and need fewer treatments.
Groventive takes longer to work, then protects for longer, than a contact insecticide. As it takes 10 days or so to spread through your plant and protect it, it's always best used along with a contact insecticide for instant kill to get a head start on eradicating the pest.
You can use Groventive following your choice of contact insecticide, or if you get Enspray-99 (a contact insecticide), you can apply Enspray mixed together with Groventive to save applying extra treatments separately. You can also use Enspray separately for instant kill.
Yes, if you're comparing it to a contact insecticide, Groventive does cost more, however with Groventive you normally require only one application, occasionally two, to control even difficult to eradicate pests like scale, thrips and mealybugs; and one application lasts around 4 weeks, whereas a typical contact insecticide would need to applied every week.
What plants is Groventive for?
Potted plants (indoors and out), ornamentals (that's the category our houseplants are in), roses, flowers and hedging (note: only for use on these plants listed). Spraying actually on buds and flowers may impact flowering so best to spray on the foliage not the flowers.
What insects does Groventive treat?
Groventive treats aphids, mealybugs, scale, thrips, mites, leafhoppers, psyllids, spittlebugs and whiteflies.
How do you apply Groventive?
DOSE
Use 10mls Groventive per 1 litre water
Groventive comes with measuring cup marked with 5ml, 10ml and 15ml increments to make measuring easy. Best used before pests get to high numbers, when they first appear or when you first notice pest damage.
DIRECTIONS
Add all the Groventive and half the final water volume to a spray bottle. Mix well, then add the rest of the water. For best results, also add Enspray 99 which improves coverage and stays on foliage longer (recommended for both indoor and outdoor, but especially outdoor in case it rains following treatment). Spray the plant thoroughly, concentrating on the foliage.
Only make up what you need (or to avoid waste, make up less than you think you need - a little goes a long way, especially if you use one of those super fine spray misters like the Mister 360 or Egmont 360).
Never store leftover mixed pesticide in a spray mister for use later. The concentrate will normally separate back out from the water and can clog your mister.
TIPS
Keep the infested plant isolated away from other plants for at least 28 days. A single application may be all that's required, however keep an eye on the plant and reapply at 14 day and 28 day intervals if needed. Groventive is a systemic insecticide, not a contact insecticide, so won't kill pests instantly on contact. Two applications recommended for best results even if no signs of pests continue.
Things to know
Do not apply Groventive more than four times in six months (so that pests do
