Taurapa Wood Carving
The Taurapa, or waka sternpost, was traditionally placed in a vertical position at the stern of a powerful war canoe known as a waka taua. Crafting such a canoe required immense talent, and those skilled in the art gained high levels of prestige and respect as priests and craftsmen due to their expert knowledge and abilities.
