Wing Matau - Fish-hook

The Matau is a fish-hook.

Some Matau were functional in form and others, like this one, were designed to be ceremonial / ornamental.

The Matau is hands-down my favourite form to carve - the bevels, curves, tapers, and balance all add to the phenomenal aesthetic.

This Matau is made from a nice piece of Raukaraka Pounamu. I wanted to have a play with a feather / wing motif - which I'm excited to carve more of - this is the first in what could be a new line.
