The Birka Dragonhead Artwork by Karen Chappelow
Named after the place it was found – Birka, Sweden, this little 13-gram piece of antiquity was found near an 1100-year-old jetty. Archaeologists think it may have been attached to a pin being used as a brooch or similar jewelry dated to approx. 800 CE, which was likely worn by someone of high status.
