Cleaning a motorcycle chain using Motul Chain Clean, or any chain cleaner, is an essential part of chain maintenance to ensure optimal performance and longevity.

Here's a step-by-step guide on how to clean your motorcycle chain using Motul Chain Clean:

Materials and Tools Needed:

- Motul Chain Clean or a similar chain cleaner.
- A chain brush or a grunge brush.
- A rag or shop towels.
- Safety gear (gloves and eye protection).

Step 1: Preparation
- Ensure your motorcycle is parked on a stable surface and in neutral with the engine turned off.

Step 2: Safety Precautions
- Put on safety gloves and eye protection to protect yourself from any splashes or contact with the cleaner.

Step 3: Application of Chain Cleaner
- Shake the Motul Chain Clean can well to ensure the product is properly mixed.
- Spray the chain cleaner directly onto the motorcycle chain, ensuring even coverage. Be careful not to overspray onto other parts of the motorcycle, as some chain cleaners can be harsh on paint and plastic parts.
- Allow the chain cleaner to sit for a minute or two to penetrate and dissolve grime and old lubricant.

Step 4: Scrubbing the Chain
- Using a chain brush or grunge brush, scrub the chain thoroughly. Make sure to reach all parts of the chain, including the rollers and links. This will help remove stubborn dirt, grime, and old lubricant.
- Rotate the rear wheel slowly as you scrub to access all portions of the chain.

Step 5: Wiping Off Residue
- After scrubbing, use a clean rag or shop towels to wipe off the dissolved grime and excess chain cleaner. You may need to fold the rag and slide it between the chain and sprocket to get into tight spaces.
- Continue rotating the rear wheel to ensure you clean the entire chain.

Step 6: Repeat if Necessary
- If your chain was exceptionally dirty or hasn't been cleaned in a while, you may need to repeat the process to ensure thorough cleaning.

Step 7: Drying
- After wiping off the residue, let the chain air dry for a few minutes to ensure that all the chain cleaner has evaporated.

Step 8: Lubrication
- Once the chain is clean and dry, it's essential to reapply a suitable chain lubricant. Motul also offers chain lubricants that you can use for this purpose. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for the lubricant you choose.

Step 9: Test the Chain
- Rotate the rear wheel to distribute the lubricant evenly across the chain.
- Check the tension of the chain and adjust it if necessary, following your motorcycle's manufacturer's recommendations.

Regular chain maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication, is crucial for the longevity and performance of your motorcycle's chain. It's typically recommended to clean and lubricate the chain every 1000km or as needed based on riding conditions.
