Yakisugi Char Oil Ebony Pro UV+
: Yakisugi Char Oil Ebony Pro UV is a deep penetrating, hardening oil made from Tung Nut Oil, Flaxseed Oil and Earthen Mineral Pigments. Now with added UV blockers to substantially increase resistance to UV fading. Specifically formulated to strengthen charred timber and slow the effects of weathering and UV degradation, Char Oil Ebony Pro UV will nourish, protect and provide structural stability.
Note: While our oils will protect from checking and splitting (when used in accordance with recommended recoat periods) the lighter the pigment, the more noticeable a weathering appearance from UV light and natural occurring mould spores may occur. UV degredation and mould spore development can be extreme in and varies greatly depending in which part of the country you live. Central Otago experiences little mould and more UV silvering, while Auckland and Northland have higher mould issues due to the rainfall and humidity. Please familiarise yourself with 'Expectations on Managing Mould'.
We constantly measure our oils performance against leading manufacturers. An independent distributor and exporter of timber cladding, tested and chose our Exterior Oil to give a 15 year warranty on their products.
Coverage: 7-15 sqm/L
Brief: A traditional penetrating oil made from Tung and Flaxseed oils, mineral pigments, UV blockers and mouldicide. Semi transparent timber stain that will nourish and provide structural stability.
Use: For preserving, staining/finishing fully charred and char and brushed timbers.
Preparation: Ensure timber is clean, dry and free of sawdust, nails or metal filings.
End Cuts: All end cuts must have a liberal application of oil applied deep into the grain to prevent water absorption.
Application: Ensure a fine weather window of 48 hours minimum. Stir well prior and during - spray, brush or roller apply liberally to fill the grain of the charred timber. Important - Within one hour of coating wipe back any excess oil remaining above the surface. For spray application use a low pressure spray with a coarse tip. Brushing is best done with a wide, good quality bristle brush. If rolling use a medium nap (6-8mm).
Apply a second coat as above when dry. Pay particular attention to wiping back excess oil to avoid over applied areas drying as shiny patches. (note: if shiny areas do appear they will weather back to a rich satin matt finish over time by exposure to weather).
Coverage: Apply at a spread rate of 5-6m2/L. Do not over apply the oil as this may cause the char to prematurely come away from the timber.
Maintenance: Apply a coat of Natural House Company Exterior Oil Pro UV col Ebony after 18 months and thereafter every 3 to 5 years (or earlier if noticing heavy weathering or sun aspects).
Cleaning of implements: Immediately after use clean equipment with plant thinner or mineral turps, followed by soap and water. (for best results use a plant soap)
Safety Instructions: Do not pour oil residue into the sewer. Let the remnants dry out and dispose of with your domestic rubbish collection. Keep naked flames away, as product can create flammable fumes during application.
Do not crumple soaked rags (otherwise spontaneous combustion may occur)
