Te Hā (a Hineahuone)
This design, based on the pūrākau (traditional story) of the creation of Hineahuone and te ira tangata (humankind), reminds us of our innate connection to each other, te taiao (nature) and the divine creators of our world. It is also a woven expression that as descendants of Hine, the prime example of human-kind, we too are perfectly formed and empowered to create life. We may venture outward many times throughout our lives to gain more knowledge, to broaden our experiences and develop ourselves in various ways, only to be reminded that we have had the answers within all along.
The overall design for this blanket is inspired by kaitaka paepaeroa, traditional woven flax muka cloaks, which featured ornately embroidered decorative borders. Te Hā features a number of stylised woven patterns including kōpiko, waharua, rī, kura whetū, huhu manu and poutama, with each motif speaking to the essence of our design story.
