Pīwakawaka
Robin Slow
Robin Slow was born in Wairau Blenheim. Robin moved to Mohua Golden Bay in 1982 to teach art at Golden Bay High School. Since 1991 Robin has worked with the whanau at Onetahua Marae producing murals, taonga puoro, kowhaiwhai and carving, finishing in the completion of the wharenui, Te Ao Marama.
Slow resigned his Art Teaching position in order to concentrate on his own full time image making. Bird motifs such as tūī , pīwakawaka, kākā, and ruru are prominently featured in his creations, symbolising the spiritual bond between earth and sky.
