TAIHAPE
- Hand Carved New Zealand Jade Toki Pendant
a tribute to the fertile heartland of New Zealand’s central North Island. Carved from pounamu, its rich green hue mirrors the lush, rolling hills and native bush of the Taihape region. The Toki’s angular shape - a traditional adze form - symbolises strength, determination, and the resilience of those who work the land. Its smooth, polished surface reflects the flow of the Rangitīkei River.
More than a piece of jewellery, a taonga (treasure) that connects you to the whenua (land) and the enduring spirit of Aotearoa. Wearing it is a reminder of the land’s abundance and the courage to carve your own path. Let inspire you with its timeless beauty and deep-rooted meaning.
The cord is typical of the beautiful finishing touch and attention to detail that Jen puts into all her work - a three coloured cord and two-tone binding complement the stone perfectly. This is the pendant for you if you'd love a standout piece of handmade jewellery.

WHY YOU WOULD WEAR A TOKI.
The toki, or adze, is a symbol of strength. The adze was a key survival tool, so the owner of a good one was believed to be strong and powerful. They were used to carve ocean-going waka (sea canoes) and to build central meeting houses so they played a central role in traditional life of māori.
The toki is traditionally worn for strength and courage - to assist through life's challenges.
