NEW HEIGHTS

- a spectacular piece of wearable art for ornithologists, bird watchers and all lovers of our feathered friends! is a beautiful, simply carved Huia pendant in New Zealand jade. We really love this piece - its beauty is in the wonderful symmetry of the design and the flawless finish.

Kyohei has used a softly coloured piece of greenstone, and used the variation in colour to give a visual delineation between the skull and the beak. Beautiful in look and feel!

This piece is a contemporary representation of the Huia bird. To Māori the huia was a sacred treasure - highly ranked chiefs and their family members wore the striking tail feathers in their hair as both a decoration and a symbol of their position. This was a beautiful and revered bird in New Zealand.

The Huia is a, now extinct, native bird of New Zealand. They were apparently a little 'ecologically naive' and being poor flyers were easy prey for two and four-legged predators! More is the shame because they were a lovely and striking song-bird.

Take a close look at the photos to appreciate the detail of this piece. a medium sized pendant and looks fantastic when worn. We will supply this with a hand-plaited 4-strand brown, adjustable cord and packaged in a woven kete pouch.

We have added a photo (courtesy of Wikipedia) of a print of a male and female Huia - just to give you a little perspective! One only - Free delivery to you with Express Courier
