MARISTELA
A bold toki carved by hand from Guatemalan jadeite. The stone's defining feature is its colour - a luminous aqua-green when worn, but hold it up to the light and it transforms into a minty blue. Typical of jadeite, this piece displays a remarkable semi-translucency that catches and holds the light.
Kerry Thompson has finished with a bright polish, allowing the stone's natural glow to surface. Two koru are carved into opposing sides of the toki, positioned slightly offset from one another. The placement creates visual interest from every angle, integrating the motif into the form rather than imposing it on the surface.
a single piece, finely carved and finished. The video shows the quality of the work and the stone's clarity.
Traditionally, the toki is worn to provide strength and courage to assist through life's challenges, and the koru is a symbol of rebirth, growth and new beginnings.
The Koru heart is all about new beginnings - the courage to successfully deal with anything the future has in store for you.
