MATARIKI SOUL
- a beautiful, hand crafted pendant wonderfully made from exotic and beautifully rich materials. This piece is exquisitely crafted with a slightly convex front and a gently cupped back. The inlay work is superb producing a faultless finish - craftsmanship at its finest!
The design pays homage to Matariki - the Pleiades star cluster in the southern sky and the beginning of the New Year in the Māori lunar calendar.
So this is a design that speaks to history and honours the three key principles of Matariki:
Matariki Hunga Nui – Remembrance. A time to reflect and honour loved ones who have passed since the last rising of Matariki. We acknowledge their lives, stories, and the legacy they leave behind, strengthening our connections to the past.
Matariki Ahunga Nui – Celebrating the Present. A season of gratitude and togetherness, where we gather with whānau and community to give thanks for the blessings we have. It is a time to share kai, stories, and joy in the here and now.
Matariki Manako Nui – Looking to the Future. As the Matariki stars shine brightly, we turn our hopes and dreams toward the coming year. This is a time to set intentions, embrace new beginnings, and prepare for the growth and opportunities ahead.
This is a hand made piece and is unique. Made for us by Yannis Petzold - a New Zealand artist and creator of gorgeous custom jewellery.
The disc base for is carved from a piece of Lapis Lazuli. The inlays are Sugilite, Copper, Silver and Gold.
The neck cord is in its own right a little work of art! A hand plaited, spiralled cord in black that is a fixed length, and has a Paua Shell Toggle and loop closure.
