General Information:
The mycotoxin ochratoxin A is formed by fungi of the genus Aspergillus and Penicillium. In addition to its pronounced nephrotoxicity, ochratoxin A exhibits hepatotoxic, teratogenic, carcinogenic and immunosuppressive properties. The ingestion of contaminated food and feed of plant origin, but also of animal origin, poses a particular health risk to humans. Ochratoxin A has already been detected in pig blood and kidneys and in human blood and breast milk.
