Which Size Do I Need?
Match the footprint size to your tent's capacity and floor dimensions. If you have an MSR tent, check your tent's specifications and choose the corresponding footprint size. The "Regular" sizes work for most standard tents, while "Large" sizes accommodate tents with wider floor plans.
Not sure? Measure your tent floor and compare it to the dimensions above. The footprint should be slightly smaller than your tent floor to prevent water pooling between the footprint and tent.
How to Use Your Footprint
Using a footprint is straightforward. Clear your campsite of sharp objects, lay the footprint flat on the ground, then pitch your tent on top. Make sure the footprint doesn't extend beyond your tent floor - if it does, fold the edges under to prevent rain from collecting between the footprint and tent.
When you pack up, shake off any dirt or debris, let it dry if it's wet, then fold or roll it separately from your tent. This keeps your tent cleaner and makes the next setup easier.
Maintenance and Care
Footprints are tough, but a bit of care helps them last. After each trip, shake off dirt and let the footprint dry completely before storing. If it's muddy, rinse it with water and hang it to dry. Store it loosely rather than tightly compressed to maintain the fabric's integrity.
Check occasionally for holes or tears. Small punctures can be repaired with tent repair tape to extend the footprint's life.
