The Access 2 represents MSR's expertise in winter backcountry shelter design. Unlike three-season tents adapted for winter use, the Access 2 is engineered from the ground up for cold-weather performance with two occupants. The central-support frame geometry distributes snow loads efficiently, preventing collapse during overnight accumulation. Limited mesh panels retain warmth while strategic ventilation points prevent condensation. The dual-door configuration provides independent access for both occupants, reducing disturbance and improving convenience during night-time exits.
Condensation Management in Winter Conditions
Managing condensation is critical in winter camping, especially with two people generating moisture. The Access 2 addresses this through intelligent fabric selection and ventilation design. The rainfly vents allow moisture to escape while the limited mesh on the tent body prevents excessive heat loss. This balance is essential for maritime alpine climates where humidity levels can be high even in winter.

With 2.69 square metres of floor space and 1586 litres of interior volume, the Access 2 provides genuine comfort for two people with winter gear. The 107cm peak height allows for sitting upright, making it easier to change layers, organise equipment, and prepare meals. The dual vestibules (481 litres total) offer ample space for skis, boots, packs, and cooking areas, keeping the interior organised and dry.

The unified hubbed pole system makes setup intuitive and fast - essential when you're working in freezing temperatures with gloved hands. The tent can be pitched fly-first in precipitation, keeping the inner tent dry during setup.
