Button Quail Females

Chinese Button Quails are the smallest species of quail and are a popular choice for experienced bird keepers. They are ground-dwelling birds that are active, inquisitive, and best suited to secure indoor enclosures or well-protected aviaries.

These quail require a warm, dry environment and are sensitive to cold, damp conditions. Housing must be predator-proof, as their small size allows them to escape through very small gaps. They do best with plenty of floor space, soft substrate, and areas to hide.

Their diet should include a quality quail or finch seed mix, supplemented with small live foods such as mealworms, along with occasional greens. Fresh water must be available at all times.

Chinese Button Quails are generally quiet, making them suitable for urban settings. Males may produce a soft call. Due to their delicate nature, they are not recommended for handling or for households with young children.
