August 2026 - Whole Month
About this month's material
Pentecost 10 - 2 August 2026
Today we will hear from Genesis 32:22-31 and Matthew 14:13-21, two readings that take us into places of wrestling, grief, hunger, and grace.
Jacob meets God in the darkness and leaves both wounded and blessed, while Jesus, carrying his own grief, responds to the crowd with compassion and shared bread.
These stories remind us that faith isn’t about having everything sorted, but about meeting God honestly in our struggle and allowing grace to change us.
As we worship together, we are invited to bring our questions, our weariness, and our hunger to the table where Christ still offers enough for all.
Pentecost 11 - 9 August 2026
In today’s readings from Genesis 37:1-4, 12-28 and Matthew 14:22-33, we meet Joseph in the pit and Peter sinking in the storm.
These stories speak honestly about envy, fear, family pain, exhaustion, courage, and the fragile trust that can still reach for God.
They remind us that Scripture isn’t filled with perfect heroes, but with deeply human people through whom God continues to work.
As we listen today, we are invited to hear Christ’s voice across the waters of our own anxiety: “Take heart. It is I. Do not be afraid."
Pentecost 12 - 16 August 2026
Today we will hear from Genesis 45:1-15 and Matthew 15:10-28, two readings that take us deep into questions of mercy, truth, and belonging.
In Joseph’s reunion with his brothers, we see the difficult grace of reconciliation, where pain isn’t denied, but the future isn’t surrendered to bitterness.
In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that our words reveal our hearts, and then a courageous Canaanite woman pushes the boundaries of mercy wider than expected.
Together, these readings invite us to trust that God is still at work in broken lives, widening the circle of compassion and calling us towards healing, courage, and grace.
Pentecost 13 - 23 August 2026
Today we hear from Exodus 1:8-2:10 and Matthew 16:13-20, two readings that ask us to notice where God’s liberating work begins.
In Exodus, courage rises through overlooked women who choose life over fear, while in Matthew, Peter names Jesus as the Messiah, though he is still learning what kind of power Jesus truly embodies.
Together these readings challenge us to resist the pull of “us vs. them", to remember our shared humanity, and to follow Christ’s way of compassion, justice, and servant leadership.
As we worship, we are invited to hear Jesus’ question not only with our ears but with our lives: “Who do you say I am?"
Pentecost 14 - 30 August 2026
Today we will hear two readings that take us into moments of risk and calling: Exodus 3:1-15 and Matthew 16:21-28.
Moses meets God in a fire that burns but is not consumed and discovers that holy ground is not a place of escape, but a place from which he is sent.
Jesus, facing the road to Jerusalem, teaches his disciples that love, justice, and faithfulness often ask more of us than we expect.
Together, these readings invite us to listen for the God who still calls, still sends, and keeps the flame of hope alive among us.
