About this month's material
Pentecost 19 - 4 October 2026

Today we hear from Exodus 20:1-4, 7-9, 12-20, where God gives the commandments to a people learning how to live in freedom, and from Matthew 21:33-46, where Jesus tells the confronting parable of the vineyard tenants.

Together, these readings ask what kind of fruit our faith, our leadership, and our communities are producing. They remind us that we are not owners of God’s world, but stewards called to practise justice, compassion, truth, Sabbath, and care for creation.

As we worship, may we be open to Christ the cornerstone, who reshapes our common life through courageous and liberating love.

Pentecost 20 - 11 October 2026

Today we will hear from Philippians 4:1-9 and Matthew 22:1-14, where Paul’s words of joy, prayer and peace meet Jesus’ challenging parable of the wedding banquet.

Together, these readings remind us that God’s invitation is wider and more generous than we often imagine.

They also show us that grace doesn’t leave us unchanged, but calls us towards humility, reconciliation, compassion and hope.

As we worship, may we hear again God’s welcome and consider how we might live as people shaped by the mind of Christ.

Pentecost 21 - 18 October 2026

Today we will hear from Exodus 33:12-23 and Matthew 22:15-22, two readings that ask where our deepest loyalty belongs.

Through Moses’ longing to glimpse God’s glory and Jesus’ challenge about the coin bearing Caesar’s image, we are invited to consider what we trust, what we worship, and who truly shapes our identity.

These stories remind us that while human systems compete for our allegiance, every person bears the image of God.

As we worship together, may we become more attentive to God’s presence, more comfortable with mystery, and more committed to honouring the sacred dignity of others.

Pentecost 22 - 25 October 2026

Today we will hear the closing story of Moses in Deuteronomy 34 and Jesus’ teaching about love and the Messiah in Matthew 22:34-46.

Together, these readings invite us to reflect on faithful leadership, the courage to let go, and the trust needed when the future unfolds beyond us.

They remind us that love of God, neighbour and self lies at the heart of faithful living.

As we worship, may we remain open to a Christ who is always greater, more surprising and more hope-filled than we expect. • • • Reminder
