Ferraria schubertii

Furry, crinkly and weirdly coloured, is it a starfish or an octopus or a flower - a fun pot plant.

This found in the arid winter rainfall region from northern Namaqualand to southern Namibia. It has sweetly scented short lived yellow flowers with dark brown spots and blotches and crisped brown margins. Sweetly scented. Needs free draining conditions, check out below! No frost. A winter rains plant, and then minimal watering. Dry during dormancy in summer. Must have an excellent free-draining soil and full sun. Height 20-50 cm.

Dormant bulbs sold each.

Photo exquisite by Paul Gardiner on the Australian Bulb Exchange "Looking more like an octopus-starfish cross than a flower." An Australian grower. If only we could source their bulbs!
