'Robusta' (Triple planted) - Ficus elastica - 10L / 25cm / Large
3x Large 'Robusta' Ficus elastica in a 10L nursery pot.
Ficus elastica 'Robusta' is a bold, low-maintenance indoor plant prized for its thick, glossy green leaves and strong upright growth. As a cultivar of the classic rubber tree, 'Robusta' features broader, darker foliage and a more compact, stocky form—ideal for modern interiors needing a clean, architectural statement. It’s especially valued for its resilience, tolerating lower light and inconsistent watering better than many other large indoor plants.
Native to Southeast Asia, Ficus elastica is naturally a tall tropical tree, but indoors ‘Robusta’ can be kept to a manageable 1–2 metres with pruning. It adds instant structure and a lush, polished look to living rooms, hallways or offices.
Toxic if ingested. Irritating sap. Comprehensive Care Instructions for Ficus elastica 'Robusta' Lighting Requirements
Indoors: Prefers bright, indirect light but adapts well to medium-light positions. Tolerates some morning sun, but harsh afternoon light may scorch the leaves.
Outdoors (in warm climates): Best grown in filtered light or part-shade on a sheltered patio. Avoid frost and strong wind. Watering Regimen
During the Growing Season (Spring to Early Autumn):
Water when the top 3–5cm of soil feels dry. Allow excess water to drain freely—never let the plant sit in water.
Cooler Months:
Reduce watering frequency and ensure the plant stays drier during periods of slow growth. Temperature & Humidity
Thrives in temperatures between 16°C–28°C. Keep away from cold drafts and heaters.
Tolerates normal home humidity but benefits from occasional misting in dry conditions. Fertilizing
Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced, diluted liquid fertiliser. Pause feeding during winter unless under grow lights. Pruning & Maintenance
Trim to control height or encourage branching. Pruning can be done at any time of year.
Wipe leaves regularly to remove dust and maintain shine. Use gloves to avoid skin contact with the sap. Repotting
Repot every 2–3 years or when roots become crowded. Use a free-draining potting mix and a pot with good drainage. Pests & Troubleshooting
Watch for mealybugs, scale and spider mites, especially in dry indoor air.
Leaf drop can result from overwatering, cold temperatures or sudden changes in light. Adjust slowly if moving to a new position. Important Note: Classic and Adaptable
Ficus elastica 'Robusta' is a reliable choice for beginners and experienced plant parents alike. Its clean lines and deep green foliage make it a timeless indoor favourite.
