Basalt Fibres, High Temperature, 500gm Bag, 12mm

Basalt fibres are an excellent way of adding strength to a mortar in high temperature situations such as an oven dome or fireplace.

They do not burn out when subjected to high temperatures of up to 1000 degrees celsius.

Steel materials can cause cracking in refractory mortars as they have a different expansion rate. Basalt does not cause cracking with thermal expansion, instead providing further reinforcement.

These fibres help reduce plastic cracking in fresh mortar as well as adding to overall structural strength of a cured dome.

For pizza ovens we recommend adding up to 5Kg per cubic meter of mortar. A 500gm bag will therefore be comfortably enough for a standard pizza oven dome.

Add the basalt at the beginning of the mixing process and ensure it it well distributed.
