Knit Basics

craft: Knit

skill level: Beginner

In this fun workshop, held in our Auckland studio, you will learn the basic stitches knit and purl, and how to use these two stitches to make stockinette and garter fabrics.

We will be working flat with a right side and a wrong side (using circular needles), making a rectangle.

We'll go over holding the yarn in our left and right hand (Continental and English styles), knitting gauge, tools & virtual resources we love.

We provide needles to use in the studio and you get to choose a mini skein of handdyed DK 8ply merino yarn right off the studio wall before class!

Buying needles to take home with you is an option.

By the end of the class you'll have a good understanding of the knit and purl stitches, the difference between garter and stockinette fabrics, and how to find the online resources to help you progress. This particular class is suited for teens and older.

Class includes:

20g of Prosper DK (a $12 value)

needles to use in class (available for purchase)

1 hour guided making option to stay and work on your own in our yarn lounge (we can answer questions)!

What you need to bring:

A notebook & pencil and/or a device you can use to take notes, photos or videos

Your own 4mm straight needles if you prefer them

Please include your mobile phone number in the note section at checkout, or include it in your profile if you register with the website. Then we can text you if there are any last minute details, or changes.

If wearing a mask benefits you or those around you - we absolutely encourage that : )
