Hand built without a mould, joining parts to create full piece. This series of works are for our annual event, Modern Japan Craft 21' Exhibition. Her work explores a juxtaposition between smooth and coarse surfaces, slender and round forms.
The black finish is archived by carbonising whilst being fired by placing the vase into a box with dry rice husks.
Unglazed outside, sealed by lacquer inside vase to hold the water.
